As winds swept through Victoria, a tree on a road in Lilydale, northeast Melbourne, was blown down and a man was killed, the Times reported.

The 33-year-old Wandin North man died on the spot, police said, before 11:00 on Friday, when a man drove west in Warburton Highway and did not expect a tree to be knocked down.

The village fire department said the tree was large and advised people nearby to be careful because the wire had also been knocked down.

Emergency service workers were also on-site to help, and the two-way road between Maroondah Highway and Leonard Road had been closed. The old Gippsland Road is the best path choice.

In addition, a big tree fell on a rail track between Ballan and Ballarat in West Victoria. The V/Line service on the Ballarat line has also been interrupted, and the replacement bus is already in operation.

On Thursday night, the Meteorological Service issued a warning of bad weather in Victoria, saying there could be devastating winds. Winds in high-altitude mountains could be as high as 125 kmhm / h, and maximum winds in Melbourne could be as high as 100 kmhm / h, with an average wind speed ranging from 60km/h to 70km/h.

Wind winds up to 69km/h were recorded at the Scoresby weather station near Lilydale before 11:00.

In the 24-hour period ending at 10:30 on Friday, the state emergency service received 93 calls for help and is expected to receive more.

Among them, 66 calls were made for collapsed trees and 23 were related to building damage.
