According to the Times, a new tram line is being planned in Melbourne`s southeast district, linking the Chadstone Shopping Centre to Monash University`s Clayton campus and the tram network for the first time.

It is reported that the new tram line will operate between the Caulfield railway station and Rowville, about 18 kilometers in length. The Department of Transportation of Victoria is considering the plan.

This line will run at the, Princes Highway and Wellington Road centres in the central area of Dandenong Road.

The Andrews government will invest $3 million in the 2018-19 budget to plan and design future tram routes. This includes the parking point and travel time and other issues of investigation and research.

Early surveys showed that if the high-capacity E-Class train runs every four minutes, it can carry 3000 people an hour during peak hours.

In the early stages of tram route planning, a line will be built between Caulfield and Monash University, ending at the intersection of the Blackburn and Wellington roads.

The second phase will extend the bus line to suburban Rowville.

The eastern part of the city has been hoping for 10 years to build a rail line to Rowville. Projected expenditures for new tram routes will need to be determined through planning and design, and these processes will take about a year.

In 2005, the state government carried out a three-kilometer extension of the 75 tram to Vermont South, which cost a total of 23 million yuan.

Governor Andrews said the future train line was "built for the southeastern city" and would further boost economic activity. "the southeastern part of Melbourne is developing, and the new tram line between Caulfield and Rowville will help ease traffic on some of the busiest roads and get everyone home faster." The line will also ease congestion on some of Melbourne`s busiest main roads, allowing people to work, return home or study quickly, said public transport director Jacinta Allan.

Dandenong Road faces 67,000 cars a day from Caulfield to Clayton, one of Melbourne`s busiest roads.

Wellington Road faces 45,999 cars a day.
