The new spousal immigration bill has been passed!
Under an immigration bill passed by the Senate, guarantee people on spouse visas will face stricter scrutiny.
In 2016, the Dutton submitted the immigration law amendment to parliament in an effort to reduce the risk of family violence problems in spouse visas. On Wednesday, the Senate finally passed the bill.
The legislation emphasizes the conduct of the guarantee and that any future guarantee with a family violence record may be banned from any guarantee spouse visa. It also makes it clear to an applicant for a spouse`s immigration visa whether his guarantee has a history of violence.
At present, when applying for a spouse immigration visa, the Immigration Service only requires a comprehensive conduct check on the visa applicant, while the investigation of the guarantee is very limited. Guarantee personnel are required to provide a non-criminal certificate only if the application includes minors.
In response to this immigration law change, the Dutton has indicated that government`s attitude is clear and that under no circumstances can violence accept it. Government must take strong measures to ban family violence.
