Daily Telegraph: another Qantas plane crash: Qantas A380 engine flying back to Melbourne from Los Angeles caught fire in the air and was forced to return

A plane returning from Los Angeles to Melbourne found one of the engines on fire two hours after takeoff.

The plane immediately turned back to Los Angeles, landing successfully, avoiding a possible disaster in the air.

Australian Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Michael Walker told reporters the authorities confirmed a successful landing of an Australian flight.

'We received a report from Qantas that one of their flights had an engine emergency in the air after taking off from Los Angeles,'he said.

The captain of the plane decided to return immediately and made a forced landing at Los Angeles International Airport.

One passenger, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Sunday Herald they saw one of the engines on fire two hours after takeoff.

Then we saw the plane circling back to Los Angeles.

Fortunately, we were able to land safely and saw many fire engines waiting on the runway for our plane to land.

Qantas spokesman Thomas Woodward said the plane had 480 passengers on board.

The captain told passengers on the plane that one of the engines had gone wrong and was heading back to Los Angeles.

He said Qantas flight QF94 was using Airbus A 380 to fly back to Melbourne from Los Angeles.

The captain shut down one of the aircraft's four engines when he discovered something was wrong.

The plane landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport at 3 a.m. Local time.

Qantas spokesman Thomas Woodward said Qantas was ready for another plane to pick up the passengers back to Melbourne, which is expected to take off at noon local time.

Passenger Darren Sudgen said they heard a very harsh sound when the engine was on fire.

We could see the engine burning from the plane.

We heard explosions outside. We saw flames and sparks flying through the window of the plane.

After returning safely to Los Angeles, Qantas asked passengers to stay at the airport and wait for another plane to pick them up for Melbourne.
