Located in northern Queensland, the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula is the northernmost end of the entire Australian continent (except the islands), covering an area of about 288804 square kilometers, equivalent to 400 Singapore or eight Hainan islands.
In 1770, Cape York Peninsula was named by the famous James Cook, Captain (Captain James Cook), after the duke of York, (Duke of York). Cape York Peninsula is flat. There are some low hills in the east, the highest of which is iron range (Iron Range),. Known for its unusual tropical rain forest.
, Cape York Peninsula's land is poorer than the rest of Australia, and almost all of the soil is lateralized. Because of the poor soil conditions, the area is sparsely populated, with fewer than 20,000 permanent residents living on the land, where the number of wild animals far exceeds that of human beings. Located in the southeast of the peninsula, Cookton (Cooktown) is the peninsula's largest town and administrative service center. In addition, Cape York Peninsula has a diverse ecosystem and extreme climatic conditions, a vast expanse of prairies, wetlands, rainforests, coastal dunes and bushes that glow with wild splendor. It is called "the barren and beautiful land of one side".
