Introduction

Cooktown is a coastal town at the northernmost tip of Queensland and the northernmost tip of the Australian mainland, southeast of Cape York Peninsula (Cape York Peninsula), about 1980 kilometers by car from the Queensland capital Brice Bar (Brisbane). About 320 kilometers by car from Cairns, the famous tourist city of northern Queensland.

Cooktown was discovered by the famous James Cook (Captain James Cook) in 1770, and the town was named after Captain Cook, with a memorial and memorial to Captain Cook.

Cooktown was an early gold town, the first European settlement in Australia, and during the fervor of the 19th century gold rush, the Pomar River (Palmer River), not far from Cooktown, discovered a wealth of gold and attracted a large number of gold diggers. At the same time, it also attracted many Chinese who were still under the rule of the Qing government at the time. During the heyday of 1877, the total number of Chinese in Cooktown and surrounding mines reached as many as 16,999, most of whom came from Guangdong and Hong Kong. Up to now, there are many Chinese descendants living here at that time.

At the same time, like many towns in northern Australia, Cooktown also has a high proportion of aborigines. Aboriginal, European and Chinese history converges in this once-prosperous town, and there is still a lot of historical imprint here. Highlights the boom that originated during the gold mining period. The vast streets are lined with impressive handmade stone balustrades, once the hub of commercial activity, and the elegant and well-preserved Queensland architecture recalls the old days. Each June, as part of the three-day Cooktown Discovery Festival, a "rebirth ceremony" is performed showing Captain Cook landing and meeting with the (Guugu Yimithirr) Aborigines of Gui ï me de Hill.

Cooktown is equipped with a regional airport with regular flights to and from Keynes; For tourists, Cooktown is an important resting and resupply place to play in the sparsely populated Cape York Peninsula, with a range of accommodations ranging from camping to four-star hotels.
