A Melbourne high school student became the first Australian to be refused a visa after Trump's immigration ban was announced.

Pouya Ghadirian, 15, was born in Australia but has both Iranian and Australian nationalities.

He said he plans to travel to the United States with his classmates for "Space Camp," where he will travel to Orlando, Washington and the American Space and Rocket Center in Alabama.

He went for an interview at the American Consulate on Monday morning.

But when he and his father arrived at the American Consulate, things quickly went down.

Consulate officials say the rules have changed.

"they were a little shocked and didn't know how to deal with it. They say they have bad news. " He said。

"They said it was the first time in the Australian Consulate to do that."

Pouya, who started his 11th grade class at Melbourne High this week, said he and his father were both excited about the news.

"I cried at the consulate. I don't usually cry," he said.

"my father was sad, too. He said, 'look, we don't have a criminal record. We didn't do anything wrong.'"

"I have Australian citizenship. I was born here. It doesn't make sense. It can't be right. "

Trump issued an executive order banning Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Sudanese, Libyan, Yemeni and Somali citizens from entering the United States.

The Fairfax media have contacted the U.S. Embassy for comment.
