Australian federal police have seized foreign money laundering cases in Melbourne, Sydney and Gold Coast.

In 2016, China`s Ministry of Public Security asked the Australian Federal Police to help identify Chinese suspects involved in illegal activities.

Two Chinese nationals were suspected to have arrived in Australia in 2015 to set up shell companies that allowed them to use the money they received to defraud investors in China to buy homes and develop properties in Australia.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, police searched Melbourne for CBD,Lower Plenty and Hawthorn, for Waterloo, in Sydney for property, vehicles and luxury goods.

Police say the investigation into the individual is continuing.

Australian Federal Police Commander Bruce Hill said the case highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combating money-laundering in Australia.

It was the third such investigation since October involving the creation of shell companies by Chinese nationals, money laundering and tax evasion.
