According to data from an energy market, Australian residents pay the most expensive electricity bills in the world, the Australian newspaper reported.

Australian households pay 2 to 3 times as much electricity as the United States, according to MarkIntell data.

South Australia`s electricity bill became the world`s most expensive after July 1, with a price of 47.13 cents per kilowatt-hour, surpassing higher-tax countries such as Germany, Denmark and Italy.

New states cost 39.1 cents a kilowatt-a-kilowatt, slightly lower than Italy, while Kunju and Victoria cost 34.7 Australian cents to 35.7 Australian cents per kilowatt, just behind South Australia, New Zealand and four to five European countries.

The United States is the cheapest of the countries that compare electricity prices, at A $15.75 per kilowatt-hour, thanks largely to the country`s vast energy market and cheap, rich natural gas.

Due to high electricity prices, Prime Minister Tam Po (Malcolm Turnbull) is set to meet with energy retailers next week to see why they charge Australian residents and small businesses more for electricity than in other countries.

Energy Secretary Freedenberg (Josh Frydenberg) says the prime minister wants to meet with energy retailers to tell them that they need to do everything they can to protect the energy use of every household, especially some vulnerable families. Because these families need to spend most of their income on energy costs, high prices will make it difficult for them.
