In response to growing crime, the state police will recruit thousands of police officers over the next four years. The state government calls it the biggest expansion of energy in history.

The government said 2 billion yuan would be used to hire 2729 new front-line and expert police, increasing the total number of police by 20 percent.

Police have issued security warnings to communities after recent carjacking and violent robberies throughout Melbourne, especially in emerging areas.

Governor Andrews said the expansion would "fundamentally change" the resources of the state police.

"everyone in Victoria has the right to feel safe, but now a lot of people don't," he said. "recent trends tell us that the boom and bust cycles of police recruitment are not the answer to crime."

The expansion will add 42 youth specialist police to work with high-risk teenagers for juvenile delinquency.

The delivery of the police force will also be adjusted as needed.

Police Commissioner Ashton welcomed the expansion, calling it "unprecedented."

"after this expansion, our police numbers will be the largest in 163 years," he said. "We have been lacking in police capacity, especially in emerging areas where the population is growing dramatically. This is the first time this model has been carried out, taking into account the need for a police force year after year in the future to ensure that we do not have the same situation as in the past few years. "

The government says it will set up police stations in Wyndham, western Melbourne, and Reservoir and South Melbourne, north of Altona,.

Warracknabeal, Rutherglen, Wedderburn, Alexandra, Wycheproof and Tangambalanga in rural areas will also be revamped.

In October, the government announced it would spend 26 million to recruit 406 police officers quickly.

The police association called for an expansion of 3300 jobs over the next six years, and the governor said the plan was the result of close co-operation between the government's unions.
