Last night, near the town of Corrigin, about 220km east of Perth, there was a tragic traffic tragedy!
On the way to Brookton-Corrigin Road, a family of six found their Holden Commodore car running out of gas and parked it on the side of the road. The 27-year-old father walked 28 kilometers to the town of Corrigin to buy gas. She left his 26-year-old wife and four children in the car.
The tragedy ensued when a grain-pulling truck from the bend crashed into a mother`s and son`s car and both crashed into a roadside field. After the accident, the 46-year-old truck driver, who had not been physically injured, called the police.
The car`s mother and 10-year-old son died instantly. Three other children, 8-year-old and 5-year-old son, as well as 3-year-old daughter, were seriously injured and were taken to Perth Children`s Hospital by helicopter. A spokesman for the hospital said the five-year-old was in critical condition and the other two were in serious but stable condition.
The police later found his father, who was still on foot, 17 km away and 11 km to the town of Corrigin.
Senior Western Australian traffic officer Steve Potter said investigators would examine whether road conditions were a factor in the accident.
"it was a very tragic scene," Steve Potter said. "as you can imagine, the scene was very catastrophic, full of trucks hitting the front car."
