A "very serious" fire at a public school in Sydney damaged a two-story building and forced hundreds of nearby residents to evacuate.

A fire broke out at the Parramatta School in Sydney. The fire was ferocious.

The fire broke out on the ground floor of the Parramatta public school building in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is not known what the cause is.

New South Wales Fire and Rescue Superintendent Norman. Buckley (Norman Buckley) told AAP, the fire was under control but not yet fully extinguished.

As of 8 a.m., about 75 firefighters were still at the scene of the fire.

Rescue Superintendent Norman. Barkley said no one was injured in the fire, and 300 residents of the nearby building evacuated the building to prevent conditions from worsening. They have now returned to their apartment.

He described the fire as "very intense" and said it had caused serious damage to many houses and that some roofs had collapsed.
