Up to 200,000 Sydneysiders gathered in the city centre`s business district last night to watch the grand parade at the annual homosex love carnival (Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras) applaud the attendees.
Nearly 200 teams from the 12,600-strong group took part in the 42nd Annual Carnival Parade, which took place mainly along Oxford Street, with many wearing hot pants, rainbow skirts and even half-naked upper body, wearing gold and silver powder, singing and dancing, all the way "shining" across the street, sporting eye balls and eliciting cheers, screams and whistles.
One of the most popular teams in the parade team is a team of township fire department volunteers who have fought for months since the start of the forest fire season, and some volunteers have even put fire fighting on the front line of the forest fire at christmas and new year.
While the festival remains one of Sydney`s annual events, this year`s audience has plummeted by a third from last year`s 300,000.
People from around the world and across australia continued to celebrate all night on oxford street after the holiday.
But just after 7 a.m. this morning, there was a stabbing outside the famous Oxford bar on Oxford Street. Several men with stab wounds were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed the case had nothing to do with the homosex love carnival, although it took place at the carnival for several hours and outside a major carnival bar.
Police said the case appeared to involve two homeless people scrambling for something that triggered violence against them. Police are looking for the perpetrator.
