Residents of a community in northern Queensland mourn the death of a large saltwater crocodile, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The 4.5-meter-long body of the crocodile was found in a creek, lying close to the shore with gunshot wounds, suspected to have been deliberately shot.

The Bismarck crocodile, about a hundred years old, has long been seen as part of the small coastal community of Kadwell, south of Keynes, and is often seen "patrolling" along the beach, the report said. Its leave is very sad for the community.

Residents are planning an anniversary for Bismarck. Theomond, a local resident, wants all community residents to attend the memorial day, saying the crocodile has "such a gentle soul." When she was a child, Ormond recalled, she and her father went to the seaside to catch crabs, and they often saw Bismarck sunbathing on the shore. "it's never aggressive, it doesn't hide itself, it doesn't hurt anyone."

Another resident, Ryan Moody, filmed Bismarck's photo and posted it on social media. He said other male crocodiles had never entered the bay because of Bismarck. But now that someone shot it, it put everyone in danger. Residents hope that aggressive large crocodiles will not invade their homes.

At present, the local police are investigating the cause of the death of the crocodile, and the Queensland Department of Environment and Science is also investigating the matter. (Intern Xie Jin)
