There were two more cases of (Rockmelon)-related listeria in Xinzhou, with a total of 17 cases in the country.

Two newly confirmed cases are a Victorian man and a Kunzhou woman.

Authorities warned at the end of February that three confirmed cases had died last week.

The NSW-based Nericon, has voluntarily stopped production after being told of the contamination.

The investigation has been under way since January, but it took weeks before the public was warned that the new state food administration and state government had been criticised.

The new state's head of the primary industry said government's approach was to "follow the rules," without delay.
