At about 10:00 on Monday (January 22, 2018), 16 people were injured in an accident at (Richmond) Station in Richmond, southwest Sydney, after a train entered the station and crashed into stop (Buffer Stop), at the end of the platform. This includes the train driver and another railway worker.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the accident occurred around 10:00 on Monday morning, when at least three passengers were trapped, but all passengers were rescued. The accident caused a number of passengers to cut or bruise, at least two more serious injuries.

Authorities sent helicopter pilots and paramedics to help, and (Fire and Rescue NSW), a new state fire and rescue agency, and (SES), an emergency service, arrived at the scene.

A spokesman for a new state fire rescue agency said a diversion area had been set up and fire and rescue workers were assisting medical and emergency workers in the inspection of injured passengers. Fifteen of the injured were taken to several hospitals, including a 21-year-old man suspected of leg fracture.

Staff at the railway union said Richmond station was the terminal of the railway line, so there was a stop at the end of the line that could have hit the (Buffer Stop), train. He pointed out that the train was slower at the time of the accident.

Collins (Howard Collins), chief executive of Sydney-based train company (Sydney Trains), said the accident was on a new Waratah train at platform 2 of Richmond Station. No one`s life is in danger at the moment.

According to eyewitness Beret (Brett), he was waiting on the platform at the time of the accident. Through the train window, he saw a lot of people flying because of the impact of the train. He thinks the train could have been about 50 km / h to 70 km / h. Immediately after the accident, he ran to the train and found a lot of injuries and blood everywhere.

Sydney train management was due to negotiate a pay deal with railway union workers on Monday morning, but talks have been suspended due to the accident, it said.

Collins said it is not yet possible to determine the cause of the accident.

New State Transportation Director Constance (Andrew Constance) said investigators from the Traffic Safety Office, the National Railway Safety Superintendent and the New State Department of Labor Safety were already working immediately after the incident. "Safety is our top priority and we will now investigate to determine the cause of the accident," he said in a statement.
