Seven French men and a Thai woman were arrested Friday on suspicion of drug trafficking. They all come to Australia with backpackers or student visas and all live in Sydney. After five months of investigation, the police finally arrested them.

Last September, the police set up a Oramzi task force to investigate illegal drugs such as MDMA, hallucinogens, ketamine and marijuana.

Police raided Haymarket,Darlinghurst and Tamarama at seven o`clock on Friday morning.

Neither 23-year-old Florian Chamon nor 44-year-old Mourad Hannachi filed an application for bail in court today.

Cases will be postponed to April 12 before the Central District Court.

Another 27-year-old man, accused of possession of illicit drugs but released on conditional bail, will appear before the Downing Central District Court on April 26. Three other men were released first.
