A truck carrying frozen meat was shut down Friday morning in an accident on the highway south of Grafton.
The truck was driving on the Pacific Highway in Glenugie.
Just after 5 a.m., the truck suddenly lost control, and the driver pulled it to a concrete barrier next to the driveway before it stopped.
Then the truck caught fire, but the fire was soon extinguished and the driver escaped.
A spokesman for Highway Maritime Services said it was fortunate that there were no incoming vehicles at the time of the accident. The accident occurred 11 kilometers south of Grafton.
The north lane of the highway closed for hours Friday as emergency workers cleaned up the accident site on the highway.
Traffic diversions were carried out, while northbound drivers headed for Parker Rd,Wells Crossing, and southbound drivers to the old Pacific Highway.
