A couple in Moihu (Moyhu), south of (Wangaratta), Wangarata, Victoria, were attacked by pet deer inside their property Wednesday morning, the Herald Sun reported, in which the man died and the woman was in critical condition.

It is reported that near 08:30 Wednesday morning, the Moihu couple were attacked by their pet deer. Among them, 46-year-old man Paul (Paul McDonald) died on the spot. A 45-year-old woman, Mandy (Mandi McDonald), was seriously injured in the upper body and leg and was in danger of his life. Medical staff treated him at the scene before being taken to the hospital by helicopter. Mandy`s life is now at stake.

It is reported, at that time the neighbor heard this terrible incident happened, and then called the police.

Police euthanized the pet deer that attacked the couple to protect the rescuers.

A local resident said Mandy`s family had arrived at the hospital.

Another resident said the impact of the incident on the town was enormous. He said: "this is a close community, a lot of residents know the couple."

Even the friendliest and tame male deer can become aggressive and dangerous during mating season, says Holit (Barry Howlett) of the Australian Deer Association (Australian Deer Association).

It is the mating season for European deer, which means that male deer grow hard antlers to attract the deer.

"they are wild animals, and it is very dangerous for wild animals to become unafraid of humans," Hollitt said.
