An indigenous woman was picked up by a crocodile Friday morning in a village north of the Northern Territory.

By Friday evening, Kunzhou police said they had found the body of the unfortunate woman.

Northern Territory police sent police stationed in Lake Evella and Nhulunbuy to GanGan yesterday to deal with the incident.

They and local wildlife conservationists and local communities searched for the crocodile and women in nearby waters and jungle.

By 5 p. M. Friday, they found the body of the crocodile and the woman.

The crocodile has also been killed.

Police say the crocodile has carried her nearly a kilometre away.

Police said the woman went fishing with her family, a total of seven women and children, and was taken away by crocodiles on Friday morning.

This is 256km southwest of Yirrkala.

The woman is also a local wildlife protector, but it is unclear whether she was on duty.

The women and children who were with her said they just heard the water crash, and then she disappeared.

When they found the woman`s basket on the shore, she disappeared.

She was fishing in deep water when the crocodile attack took place.
