Witnesses say a white car rushed into pedestrians without warning. Sue (Sue), who works at a nearby doughnut store, said: "the noise can be heard on (Swanston Street) side of Swanston Street."

"We saw this white car approaching the crossroads," she told Radio 3AW. Knocked a man over. People were crying and running away. "

Sue also said that the car may have hit something in the middle of the road, when the tram also stopped in the middle of the road, and then the car rushed to the left of the road and stopped. She felt the driver did not hit the brakes in the process and "knocked everyone down at the crossroads."

The state police announced around 5 p. M. This afternoon that they had arrested the driver of the vehicle.

In January, six people were killed and at least 30 injured in a nationwide car crash in (Bourke Street), just one street from downtown Melbourne.
