Sydney`s criticised CBD new light rail line broke down just a few hours after it began carrying passengers.

A light rail train stopped near the ring wharf (Circular Quay) due to mechanical failure this afternoon, forcing all other northbound flights to end with City Hall (Town Hall).

The faulty train, which is out of power, blocks two lines for about an hour.

Earlier, two light rail trains were suspended near (Royal Randwick Racecourse), Royal Lanwick Racecourse, due to technical problems.

The New State Transportation Department issued a statement online advising passengers to "reserve more time to listen to notifications and view information displays to get new news about the shift."

Today, a male passenger suffered a stroke next to the hay market (Haymarket), causing the light rail train to stop for about 20 minutes.

It is reported that the A $2.9 billion light rail line between ring wharf and Lanwick (Randwick) is open to the public for the first time today. New state government congratulates the passenger train on its return to CBD George Street (George Street) and believes it will always change the city.

A group of passengers were chosen to embark on their first trip from circular wharf to Langwick. The line is open to the public at 11:00 this morning. Its opening means Sydney has resumed its light rail network for the first time since 1961 and its first tram appeared on George Street since 1958.

Passengers can take the bus free of charge on the first weekend of opening to traffic. The project has long been criticized for soaring costs and serious delays.

Traffic Director Constance (Andrew Constance) said at today`s opening ceremony: "this will always change the city. For many people in the future, for many generations, it will be a great project. Trams should not have been cancelled-everyone agreed, so we asked them to come back."

State government says the new light rail network can deliver up to 13500 more commuters an hour during peak hours.

It is understood that a light rail tram can hold up to 450 passengers, equivalent to 9 buses.

At present, about 200000 kilometers of tram tests have been carried out, and 100 drivers have received 190 hours of training.

The (Kingsford) branch to Kingsford is not expected to open until March this year.
