On Sunday, a light rail tram derailed after colliding with a car in Sydney`s inner city, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The tram was travelling south on South Dowling Street in Surry Hills at about 4:40pm yesterday when it was hit on the front by a vehicle.
The 67-metre tram, in the direction of Randwick, blocked South Dowling Street. Cleveland Street and Flinders Street were once blocked by the crash.
It is reported that the tram was slightly damaged. Both drivers suffered minor injuries but no passengers were injured.
When the passengers got out of the car, they made their way to Moore Park. The vehicle was towed. In the wake of the accident, the Central to Moore Park section of the light rail line was stopped at one point and the tram was replaced by a bus. Passengers can also take regular bus flights, the TMC said earlier.
TMC speaker added:" Because Australia Day has blocked roads to keep the crowd safe, the L2 light rail service from the circular whitef to Town Hall section is no longer in operation. Passengers are advised to take the city hall to the circular wharf section of the train."
Police and emergency services, along with tram repair crews, were on the spot, according to speaker of the altrac consortium, which delivers the $2.9 billion new light rail project. They are working to "get the tram back on track "... the light rail tram line is known to be operated by Transdev and is part of the ALTRAC consortium.
The speaker said further information on the cause of the accident was unclear, which is police affairs.
Just two weeks ago, hundreds of passengers were trapped in electric cars for more than an hour because of a light rail service failure, forcing police to evacuate.
At 4:00 p.m. last tuesday, a tram malfunctioned at the city hall, shutting down a third of the troubled light rail network.
In december, the ring-shaped whitef (circular qay)-randwick light rail ran for up to 50 minutes, raising questions about the effectiveness of the 12-kilometer new light rail service. Authorities promised that last week, together, the running time would shrink to 40-45 minutes.
