The 67-year-old Australian man beat up China's newlywed wife with his hair-wrenching, shouting: my wife is in charge of me.

A 67-year-old Sydney man has been charged with four serious assaults on his Chinese newlywed wife, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

A judge charged the suspect with two counts of assault causing actual bodily injury, as well as two counts of ordinary assault, when the Canberra District Court opened on Saturday.

The court learned that the suspect`s wife had recently arrived in Australia from China, unable to speak English, and lacked a social support network in Australia. The judge rejected his bail application, given that the man might commit another crime and his wife was in a weak position. Court documents showed that the victim was not a permanent resident of Australia or an Australian citizen.

Court documents said the man and his new wife were on holiday in Canberra at the time of the incident. His first alleged crime was at the Australian War Memorial on April 5, when several witnesses were present.

According to the Australian New KuaiBao report, the man and his wife had a fierce dispute before the incident, and then waved after her. Security at the museum said the suspect had tried to hit the victim in the head. The incident was monitored and security personnel then called for police intervention.

However, the woman on the spot did not expose the man`s atrocity, the police later sent the couple back to the hotel. The next morning, the woman woke up and found the man searching her handbag and other items.

The woman tried to get her bag back after she was worried that the man was checking out and taking her belongings, court documents said. The man, however, grabbed her hair in one hand and his throat in the other, forcing her to fall to the ground. Photos of the woman at the time of the incident showed "severe bruising" and red marks on the woman`s neck.

The report said a hotel staff member at the time tried to dissuade, but the man said to him: "this is my wife, I will do whatever I want!"

Police then arrived at the scene, paramedics assessed the woman`s injuries, the man was arrested. It is reported that the victim arrived in Australia in December 2017, just married in March this year.
