An overseas internet start-up that CEO, a former Australian telecoms company, calls the real threat to the telecommunications industry, will launch a subscriber package in Australia this month: unlimited traffic, speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Singapore-based MyRepublic claims it has shocked the telecommunications industry in Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand, helping users gain real access to 100Mbps`s network bandwidth.

The company says its next target is Australia.

They point out that 80 percent of customers on the national broadband network (NBN) currently enjoy speeds that are just as fast as the 25Mbps or less that ADSL technology can offer.

"there are now 3 million families on NBN, and we think it`s time to get into this market," said Malcolm Rodrigues, chief executive of MyRepublic.

"the services we offer are tailored to NBN, and everything we do revolves around a NBN-based architecture and creates the first real NBN product."

He said existing telecoms companies have long confused data limitations with speed segmentation, which is not what MyRepublic considers.

They will provide the fastest possible speed (up to 100Mbps) and unlimited traffic.

Asked what "the fastest possible speed is," Nicholas Demos, managing director of MyRepublic Australia, said it depends on the technology used by customers to connect to the NBN network.

If customers have real "fiber-in-the-house", they can enjoy the highest 100 Mbps.

Australia`s existing telecoms companies, he said, are "lazy" and lack innovation and competition across the industry.

Mr. Demos said: "they cancelled their existing customers` packages and moved them under NBN. But in fact, it`s not the NBN architecture itself that doesn`t provide faster speed, it`s the telecom companies that lack innovation. "

The MyRepublic package is priced at A $59.99 a month. A similar package costs A $100 a month for existing telecoms companies, and A $60 for ADSL networks.
