A Chinese student in Sydney has found herself one of the victims of "false kidnapping" fraud in Australia`s Chinese community.

The victim, in her early 20s, lives in the (Redfern Police Area Command) district of Sydney`s Red Square police district, the Daily Telegraph reported. Scammers contacted her and threatened to cancel her Australian visa. Faced with threats, she was forced to pose as if she had been kidnapped.

Fitzgerald (Despa Fitzgerald), head of crime in the Red Square police district, said the elaborate, complex form of crime was tantamount to "mental torture."

In June, the criminal group, after calling the victim, pretended to transfer the call to Beijing police, claiming that she had been involved in a crime in China.

In order to avoid the cancellation of her visa, the girl was required to transfer a large sum of money to the criminal organization. She was then ordered to buy cosmetics and a piece of rope to take pictures of herself as if she had been kidnapped. In addition, she was asked to contact criminal organizations every hour, in addition to sleeping.

"she was forced to pose as if she had been kidnapped (photographed) and sent the photos to the so-called `institutions`. These `institutions` are said to be located abroad. When the so-called abductions were photographed at their parents, they were blackmailed. " Fitzgerald said.

As a result, the victim`s parents also paid a sum of money to the criminal organization.

Eventually, worried about her daughter`s safety, the girl`s parents contacted the Chinese consulate in Australia, which informed Red Square police.

In the fraud, the girl and her family were blackmailed for tens of thousands of dollars.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Council (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) has received nearly 1700 reports of such fraud this year, with a total loss of A $1.15 million, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Council. In the scam, swindlers threatened to arrest the victim and extort money through "false kidnapping". This is the first similar type of fraud in the Red Square Police District.

Rikard (Delia Rickard), acting chairman of the Commission, said in a statement last month that the frauds were particularly bad. Worryingly, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of attacks on the Chinese community.
