With dozens of gas stations across Australia offering a 4-point discount, competition for gasoline prices has begun to heat up, and car owners will be rewarded for points while refueling. (CALTEX) `s 100-plus gas stations receive a 4-cent discount and save an average of 2 yuan after filling up.
In some areas, gasoline prices have hit 10-year highs, which are clearly robberies and sharp increases in household spending.
The report also found that the gap between the most expensive and cheapest retailers has increased significantly over the past decade.
The average price of unleaded gasoline across Australia fell 4.4 points last week to 156.1 cents a litre, according to the latest data from the Australian Petroleum Association (Australian Institute of Petroleum).
But consumers will get a price cut. Supermarket giants Woolworths and Caltex said on Nov. 7 that they have consolidated their partnership to offer extra deals to owners.
More than 11.2 million Woolworths members receive 680 additional Gardens points while filling in.
Customers who spend more than 30 yuan at the Woolworths supermarket can also enjoy a 4-cent discount at another 125 Caltex gas stations.
At present, there are 104 Caltex gas stations can use these 4-cent discount coupons.
Richard Pearson, Caltex`s executive general manager, said the move would eventually give owners more money in their pockets.
"We want our customers to get some returns every time they finish filling, so I`m glad this will help them save money on groceries and other purchases," he said.
"the good news is that there are more and more outlets that can offer a 4-cent discount."
Consumers can also use 2000 Woolworths rewards when recharging, or $10 in savings, but this won`t be available until 2019.
The fuel industry is highly "competitive" and consumers are increasingly sensitive to costs, Pearson said. He said: "We are all trying to attract customers in the market."
Peter Khoury, an (NRMA) spokesman for the Australian Automobile Association, said it was important to increase the choice of car owners when filling. "it`s important that we have as many opportunities as possible to find the cheapest gas station," he said.
"it`s been a tough year for the family." Khoury said he hopes the new state`s 2016 regulations to force gas stations to announce gasoline prices in real time will be promoted across Australia.
