There was a huge explosion, near the port of Beirut, Lebanon's capital, last night that left at least 73 people, including an Australian death ,4000 more injured, and the number of dead and significantly.
Prime Minister Morrison (Scott Morrison) said this morning that one Australian death, Australian embassy was "severely affected" in the Great explosion ".
"We can report that all the staff there are good, but the building where the embassy is located has been badly damaged. I am glad that our staff are in good condition except for some cuts and scratches. "
"But we express our deep sympathy to the people of Lebanon. Australia has a large Lebanese community that will be worried about the safety of their loved ones. "
Minister Payne (Marise Payne) said some embassy staff were hit by splattered glass fragments when the windows of the embassy building were blown open.
Lebanon authorities but for now authorities says the explosion looks like an accident, not a deliberate one. The Prime Minister, Hassan Diab (Hassan Diab), described explosion as "a disaster" and said that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
A warehouse containing large quantities of high explosive chemical ammonium nitrate was reported to have caught fire before a major explosion.
Prime Minister Diab said that 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate had been stored in the warehouse ," which is unacceptable ".
"As many as 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate were transported to the warehouse for six years without the necessary protective measures and endangering the safety of the citizen, which is unacceptable ," he said. "
Local media said the batch of ammonium nitrate from a 10-year shipwreck. Ammonium nitrate is used in the production of chemical fertilizers, but it can also be used to produce high-explosive dynamite.
The explosion was as powerful as a small nuclear explosion, compared with the Hiroshima atomic bomb explosion, where a mushroom cloud rose and residents of Cyprus 150 miles away felt the shock.
