Australia's one of the most famous beaches is disappearing because of the worsening erosion of Byron Bay (Byron Bay) on the upper north coast of Jersey.
The local Holland has lived in the area for 47 years, and he has never seen such a scene. If soil erosion continues unchecked, he said, it may eventually threat to a major street in the town.
'It's the first time I've seen such a bad situation here, and it has n' t stopped ,'said Holland.
Local resident Fenton says erosion is worsening every minute. He has been recording the erosion of the main beach almost daily for the past 18 months, and he believes it has become increasingly dangerous.
For me, he said, I was most worried about the tourists who came here because the locals knew there were rocks, but the tourists didn't. If they get into the waves, some people may be seriously injured.
Hayes, a local woman who often swims, has similar concerns.
She said there used to be no rocks here, but now there are piles of rocks. If you lose the beach, what else can there be in Byron Bay? It used to be a beautiful beach, and now you see, it's like an obstacle course.
A similar problem occurred last year at nearby Clark Beach, where tons of sand were lost holiday parks Reflection forced to install temporary sandbags to protect infrastructure.
Mr richardson, the mayor of byron, says the problem has since spread around the city.
In our case, the sand generally flows from south to north, he said. So if you put anything that prevents the sand from flowing naturally, the north will start to lose, and the south will accumulate. We have seen this in 1000 cases around the world.
Richardson said it was a difficult situation and city government were seeking emergency meetings with state government to discuss possible remedies.
