On Dec.6, the Port Phillip Parliament voted last night that the St Kilda Beach summer would be a permanent ban, and five of the eight members and the mayor, Dick Gross, voted in favour.

The ban will last for four months from Nov. 1 to March 31 the following year.

Mayor Dick Gross said: "while there is no guarantee that a 24-hour ban will help reduce anti-social behaviour, I think most people in the community want us to take this action and see if it works."

The media said the previous violence among 100 teenagers had added "the last straw to the camel" for a permanent ban on alcohol.

St kilda Beach, Melbourne's famous tourist resort, has issued a permanent prohibition on alcohol! Heavy penalty for violato

Last month alone, there were at least three serious incidents of violence at, St Kilda Beach. Local people and police support for a ban on alcohol rose sharply.

Nearly 100 people poured into St Kilda City Hall on Wednesday night to vote in strong support for a 24-hour ban in the summer.

More than a dozen citizens spoke and many expressed their concerns.

Citizens told parliament they no longer thought it safe to bring their children to the beach.

"We are here out of despair and fear for our family," said one woman. On Saturday night, my husband was the one who led the criminal to the police. "

Local priest Jason Rouda said it made him feel unsafe to take his two-year-old daughter to eat fish potatoes on the beach after witnessing how violent people were when they were drunk.

"A lot of my friends with kids share the same view and they don`t take them there," he said.

St Kilda is one of the most drunk states in Victoria and the second highest rate of calls to ambulances.

Earlier this year the beach imposed a ban on alcohol after 8 p. M., but it only made people drink even more by 8: 00 p. M.

, St Kilda accounted for 55.4% of all beach crime in the past five years.

"We need an injunction."

"We have a duty to maintain our beach," said the owner of a famous local restaurant.

With police announcing annual beach safety operation (Operation Sandsafe). To increase patrols in the area, the police will have the right to conduct weapons searches to prevent further criminal acts.
