Authorities have stepped up evacuation operations to move victims in high-risk areas to safety. In one of the worst-hit areas, in Bandabberg, 385 kilometers north of Brisbane, a breakwater broke out earlier on the local Burnett River, with torrential currents and muddy floods rushing down the streets and houses of the town. Rescue teams succeeded in rescuing about 1,000 victims from danger, and about 1,500 others have taken refuge in evacuation centres. For safety reasons, local hospital patients have been scheduled to be transferred by helicopter to Brisbane.
Governor Newman said four cities in the state were facing heavy flooding as a result of tropical cyclone Oswald and announced that Bandabberg, 360 kilometers north of Brisbane, was facing an emergency. More than 2,000 houses have been flooded in Bandabberg, with at least 30 people trapped on roofs and thousands more affected. He pointed out that the authorities have sent 14 helicopters to rescue the trapped victims. Nearly two hundred and fifty thousand families in Kunzhou went out of power on Monday. Some people climb up to the roof to wait for help because of the rising water level. At present, about 100 soldiers have been sent to the scene to assist rescue efforts.
The government announced that the flood affected 1/3 parts of the state! 90% of homes were affected by the floods! Because of the clogging of the sewers, the air was full of uncomfortable stench.
Roads in the towns of Inham and Innice were cut off by floods, and more than a dozen schools were suspended. The Ministry of Education said that the safety of the children should be put first!
On social media yesterday, a citizen released a photo and found a giant crocodile on the flooded Trebonne road. Kunzhou Environmental Department immediately issued a warning, victims should pay attention to underwater "disaster victims"!
As crops were flooded and there was a shortage of food, rescuers used boats and helicopters to deliver supplies to victims.
