According to the Herald Sun, 10 shopping malls with the highest crime rates in Melbourne have been revealed. North (Northland) has been at the top of the list, but shoplifting, fight and other violations are also rising in other shopping areas in the south-east.
According to Victoria Crime Bureau of Statistics (Crime Statistics Agency Victoria), Northland has the highest crime rate in Melbourne over the past five years, with 951 crimes committed between April last year and March this year.
This was followed by Nalvaran (Narre Warren) `s fountain gate (Fountain Gate), which committed 713 crimes between April last year and March this year, equivalent to nearly two a day. Every year, crime at or near fountain doors has more than doubled, more than doubling since 2014 / 15, when 352 crimes occurred. Last year, there were 564 asset and fraud crimes, including shoplifting, at fountain gate, and 83 attacks.
Violations at (Southland) Shopping Center in South China have also increased rapidly over the past five years. Between April last year and March this year alone, there were 458 cases. There were 373 crimes of shoplifting and other assets, as well as fraud. In the past five years, the number of crimes against people has increased from 12 to 62.
In addition, (Doncaster Shoppingtown) and Knox (Knox) Shopping Mall of Scentre Group, owned by Westfield (Westfield), are among the top 10 in terms of crime rates, with 309 and 284cases, respectively.
Other top 10 entrants are Vicinity Centres`s Bay (Bayside) Mall, 509cases, and Charleston (Chadstone) Mall, 201cases.
There are also shopping malls such as (Eastland), Hebbont (Highpoint), Claikiborn Center (Craigieburn Central) in Eastland, with 506, 476 and 181 criminal acts, respectively.
