According to the Herald Sun, the University of Melbourne recently received a $30 million gift that gives gifted students a chance to fully realize their potential.

The generous donation from Hansen Little Foundation, the largest ever received by the University of Melbourne, will transform the lives of young students.

The money will be used to build a new dormitory, Little Hall, which will also set up a university Hansen scholarship program, which will be launched in 2020.

The 20 gifted students will be selected as "Hansen Scholars", who will enjoy free accommodation in Little Hall, and the school will provide living expenses and career support.

Scholarship founder Jane Hansen says the program will provide opportunities for outstanding students. Some students may not have the opportunity to continue their studies because of their personal circumstances.

"The Hansen scholarship program will broaden the horizons of the students so that they can remould their dreams and the future."

Little Hall will provide accommodation for 699 students who will benefit from a Enrichment Program to help them fully develop their capabilities.

Glyn Davis, deputy dean of the University of Melbourne, said the gift from Hansen and Paul Little AO would change the lives of many students who might not have been able to afford college.

"We want the best students to study in Melbourne and help them make the most of their time at school. Little Hall is a great opportunity to create affordable housing for University of Melbourne students.
