Chinese star Wu Xiubo, a former tourism ambassador to the Australian Tourism Board (Tourism Australia), has been embroiled in a marital affair. Wu was accused of blackmail by his ex-mistress, resulting in the latter being jailed. The incident caused a stir on social media in China. The Australian Tourism Board recently said it would no longer ask Wu Xiubo to participate in the activities.

Recently, Wu Xiubo`s marital affair with actress Chen Yulin has aroused widespread concern, according to the Australian Financial Review. According to an open letter issued by her parents, Wu Xiubo reported to the public security authorities that Chen Yulin, who was arrested on suspicion of extorting money on suspicion of extortion, threatened to blackmail her money by exposing privacy. The reputation of China`s entertainment industry has been hit again.

Wu Xiubo`s seven-year affair was revealed by the woman in September 2018, who also gave details of the relationship and accused Wu of trying to control her career. Wu Xiubo did not respond to this at that time. The incident exploded again after Chen`s parents made public the news of her daughter`s arrest. The woman`s parents claimed that Wu lured Chen into returning to China on the ground of quelling the matter. According to the charges, Chen may face up to 10 years in prison.

In addition, Wu Xiubo`s wife also said on social media, Chen threatened to demand a large amount of money, the family is simply out of its trouble. Wu`s lawyer also said Chen had extorted the facts, and completely denied Chen`s allegations.

After the incident came to light on Chinese social media this week, Wang Sicong, son of wealthy Chinese social media celebrity Wang Sicong, publicly accused Wu Xiubo of being "bad enough" and "scum man." But there were also some people standing in line Wu Xiubo, accusing the woman of trying to blackmail.

It is reported that Wu Xiubo is the Australian Tourism Board 2017 "China-Australia Tourism year" image ambassador, the news was made public by the then Minister of Trade Jobo (Steve Ciobo) personally. The Australian tourist Board said on Tuesday that it had not invited Wu Xiubo to participate in other activities since then, and that it did not intend to do so in the future.

The Wu scandal highlights the high risk that Australian organisations and institutions hire Chinese stars to promote products and services. Earlier, Australian health care brand Swisse`s Chinese brand ambassador Fan Bingbing has also been exposed tax evasion scandal.
