Smoke makes the air dangerous, Sydney's air is worse than Beijing's

The smoke produced by forest fires around Sydney was blown to the center of the city by the wind, causing Sydney Port to be shrouded in smoke on Tuesday

Smoke from widespread forest fires in New and Kunzhou has caused "unprecedented future" health hazards, and authorities urged more than 3 million people to stay indoors to avoid inhaling harmful substances in the air.

Air quality in (Illawarra), greater Sydney, new state, and Brisbane, Queensland, is said to be worse than haze days in Beijing and Jakarta, reaching a "dangerous" level.

After days of massive forest fires in the two states, hot and high temperatures on Tuesday, coupled with windy weather, prompted the authorities to issue a catastrophic forest fire warning for the greater Sydney area and surrounding areas for the first time.

When the new state government declared a state of emergency, the township fire department claimed that the combination of high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds created "horrific conditions."

Smoke and particulate matter in the air prompt authorities to predict poor air quality and harm human health. Following the warning issued by the Department of Industry and Environment, the Meteorological Bureau also warned of an increase in the amount of particles in the air in Sydney.

In Kunzhou, real-time air monitoring data from the Department of Environment and Science and Technology show that air quality is "very poor" in most and around Brisbane.

On Monday afternoon, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Yeswick (Ipswich), Gaston (Gladstone), Monamba (Moranbah), McKay (Mackay) and Tang Shiwei (Townsville), air quality were among the worst.

Dr. (Jeannette Young), chief medical officer of Kunzhou, said people with respiratory problems were told not to go out at home. She says people should not go out unless necessary.

About 3 million people in Brisbane, Queensland, Gold Coast and Yeshi were told to stay at home on Tuesday because of unprecedented health hazards caused by forest fires and smog.

In some urban areas of Brisbane and Sydney, the difference in air quality can be compared to haze days in Beijing, according to an air quality comparison.

Suspended particles in the air can cause damage to the eyes and respiratory tract.

(Asthma Australia), the Australian Asthma Association, says smoke from vegetation fires often triggers asthma and urges patients not to take it lightly.
