China`s milk powder industry is undergoing a new round of reshuffle, consumers can choose more high-quality and high-priced milk powder, there are still some mothers choose to buy overseas or buy imported milk powder. However, is milk powder overseas really safe? The answer is not necessarily.

Recently, milk powder brands from the United States, France and Ireland have been revealed to be infected with salmonella, including milk powder from Ireland, suspected salmonella has been exported to Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and other countries.

Irish infant formula is suspected to be infected with salmonella, according to the European Union`s Food and Feed Rapid warning system (RASFF). According to RASFF, the salmonella contamination was classified as a "serious" incident. RASFF did not disclose the name of the brand or manufacturer of the milk powder, and it was not clear whether the milk powder had been distributed.

It is worth mentioning that the incident was discovered by the French side on July 27 and issued an early warning in the European Union. Ireland then discovered the problem on July 28. On July 30, Norway identified the problem and issued an early warning.

In fact, since last year, there have been a number of cases of milk powder infected with salmonella in overseas markets.

In October 2017, the Landrich Group, the world`s second-largest dairy company from France, was also involved in the salmonella scandal, which swept more than 80 countries and regions around the world, involving more than 10,000 tons of milk powder contaminated. Leading to a major national ban on the import of the company`s milk powder.

In addition, on July 14, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that there had been a salmonella outbreak in 33 states, causing 100 infections, of which 30 were hospitalized.

On July 24, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it suspected a recent series of food recalls caused by salmonella was related to a whey supplier and warned that more products could be recalled in the next few days.

Although most of the above-mentioned tainted milk powder brands do not enter the Chinese market through general trade, a large number of milk powder entering China through cross-border purchasing, overseas shopping, purchasing by agents and so on, still exist every year. Overseas contaminated milk powder also brings safety risks to this part of the consumer.

In response, China`s food industry analyst Zhu Danpeng told the Securities Daily that in the last year, a lot of foreign milk powder problems. "domestic consumers have changed from blindly worshipping foreign milk powder in the past to scientifically judging the brand, quality, and consumption of milk powder."

In fact, in addition to the contamination of the milk powder, in addition to the safety risks, last month, the Royal Netherlands Fischland brand of infant milk powder was also exposed by the media, its milk powder in the water can not dissolve.

According to media reports, Mr. Han bought three cans of Dutch imported gold milk powder in Su Ning two months ago. When he bubbled as usual, he found milk powder insoluble in the water, emitting a strange smell. Mr. Han contacted Fisher Lan Food Trade (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, an importer of American milk powder, whose director said Mr. Han`s milk powder was genuine and of guaranteed quality. As for Mr. Han`s current problems, the company is also looking for reasons.

In this round of exposure of problematic milk powder, Australia-made brands are not on the list.
