According to Radio 9, some of the suspects came from the same family. Australian News Network reported that some suspects and victims are relatives.

Nine suspects did not attend yesterday`s trial at Tuvenba District Court (Toowoomba Magistrates Court), nor did they apply for bail. Ross (Kevin Rose), a lawyer representing the five suspects, said outside court that the police were likely to file more charges given the death of the victim.

Tuwanba local resident Zoe (Kevina Suey) said people knew each other and the woman`s death shocked the entire indigenous community. Nearby neighbor Kemp (Raymonde Kemp) also said angrily, "they have been friendly [with suspects] and often say hello to me. What a shock! How can so many people bully a woman? "
