Shortly before 5 p. M. Thursday afternoon, a father in Canberra waited outside an elementary school to pick up his children, according to the Daily Mail. While he was parked outside the school, a car exploded, injuring the father and killing him shortly after he was admitted to the hospital.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the 50-year-old father arrived at St Clare of Assisi Elementary School in Condel (Conder), south of Canberra, to pick up children in after-school care. During the period, he parked outside the white car exploded.

Emergency service personnel arrived at the school after receiving the report and rushed the man to the hospital for rescue. Unfortunately, the man died shortly after he was admitted to the hospital.

After the incident, the school sent an e-mail to its community informing residents of the death of a parent and announced that the school would be closed on Friday until next Monday.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Capital Territory Police (ACT Policing) did not see anything suspicious about the incident. Police believe the explosion may have been caused by a leak in a gas tank in the car.

The headmaster of the school, Matthew Egan-Richards, told the media on Friday that employees were helping the children and their families. When the school reopens on Monday, counselors will also visit the school to talk to emotionally affected children, parents and employees. He believed that no child had witnessed what had happened.

Residents living nearby said they heard a loud noise and the windows were shaking.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that there was a hole in one side of a white car parked in the parking lot.

The incident is being investigated by Australian capital territory police and work security agency (WorkSafe ACT).
