North Epping in Sydney`s north-west was in a serious traffic accident this morning. A car crashed into the restaurant`s front door, killing one of its customers and injuring several others.

The New State Emergency Services said the incident took place at about 10.15am on Friday at the intersection of Malton Road and Roma Street in North Yiping.

A 40-year-old woman was in Ta One Thai Restaurant/Cafe with several friends when an 89-year-old man drove a Holden Commodore over, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Police say the man is believed to have driven off the shoulder of a disabled person`s car on Malton Road before hitting a table outside the restaurant.

A group of mothers were said to be partying after sending their children to the nearby North Yiping Public Primary School, among them the woman who died.

The 89-year-old driver was later taken to Ryde Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

The deceased and the driver are known to be local residents.

The owner of the restaurant near the incident said he heard "screams" after the crash. One shopkeeper said:" I didn`t see it with my own eyes, but I heard people shouting... That`s never happened before. "

"The restaurant has been booming all morning and we hope everyone is well. "

The police statement confirmed that the woman was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital for rescue after the incident, but eventually died of serious injuries.

In addition to the woman, nine others received on-site treatment, four of whom were taken to hospital but were in stable condition.
