According to the Australian newspaper, more than 60 percent of the Australian Scholarship (Australia Awards) winners came from Asia in 2017, which contradicts previous comments by Han Xin, leader of the one-nation party, Han Xin. Han Xin has claimed that the taxpayer-funded scholarship program for students from developing countries is mainly awarded to African students.

It is reported that the "Australian scholarship" project is designed for students from developing countries and provides the winners with free-to-time education courses in more than one of Australia`s key colleges, including the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University.

Of the 3769 Australian Scholarship winners last year, 2300 were from Asian countries, according to data obtained by the Australian newspaper. Indonesia has the largest number of winners, 940, more than double the number of international students from 25 African countries. Only 445 African students won the prize, with Kenya (75) winning the most.

African students also receive fewer awards than Papua New Guinea. Australia`s 501Papua New Guinea students received the scholarship, which is expected to cost taxpayers A $320 million this fiscal year.

In addition, students from Vietnam, Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal received more Australian scholarships in 2017. Among them, 217 overseas students in Vietnam won the prize.

Last week, on social media Facebook (Facebook), Han Xin cited false data from Liberal congressman Gigurich (Lucy Gichuhi), saying he was "angry" about the free trip of thousands of African students to Australia, while locals were struggling. Geechusch once claimed that 10000 Asian-American students might have been awarded "Australian scholarships."

Senator Han Xin said today that criticism has never been directed at Asians, but at Australia`s foreign aid budget`s "Australian Scholarship" programme. "the problem has never been the number or nationality of foreign students funded by taxpayers, but the cost of A $300 million. I`m not going to apologize to anyone because it`s always in the interests of Australian children. I think this money should be diverted to Australian (local) students. "
