The deadly outbreak in Australia caused by cantaloupe infected with Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) has yet to subside, and data released recently by the European Food Safety Agency (European Food Safety Authority) showed that nine people died from eating frozen corn or other vegetables infected with Listeria. Australia`s three supermarkets immediately recalled nine kinds of quick-frozen food.

According to the Herald Sun report, since the Listeria outbreak has reportedly caused nine deaths in Europe, and several 10 people have been ill, Australia`s IGA,Aldi,Woolworths supermarket has been removed from the shelves of a variety of quick-frozen corn, peanuts, carrots and mixed vegetable products, Affected branded packages Black and Gold,Bell Farms,Market Fare and Essentials.

Consumers are called on not to eat these products and return the goods to the purchase store for a refund.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with immune system problems are known to be at high risk of infection with Listeria monocytogenes, while healthy adults have a low risk of infection, with most patients showing only flu-like symptoms.

It is believed that the source of the current European Listeria outbreak is at a packaging plant in Hungary. May (Peter May), chief executive of the Australian-New Zealand Food Standards Authority (Food Standards Australia New Zealand), warned Australians to check for infected products in their refrigerators.

Persons who feel uncomfortable with the consumption of related products shall seek medical treatment. "although many people will follow the cooking instructions correctly, this should kill Listeria. But we know that some people just take frozen vegetables out of the fridge and eat them. For those who do not cook the product correctly, there is a risk. " He said。

In addition, European dealer Greenyard freeze Belgium NV also launched a recall order today.

Just four months ago, Listeria mongolicum-infected cantaloupe caused an outbreak across Australia, killing one Victorian and leaving 15 seriously ill.

It is reported that every year, about 15 Australians died of Listeria monocytogenes infection, 150 people were sent to hospital.
