A teacher in Melbourne`s western district molested two school girl, teachers in the school library and has been sentenced, the Times reported.
The 34-year-old Richard Grabski appeared before the Melbourne District Court on Tuesday after Grabski was convicted of child molestation during a three-day trial.
Judge Jon Klenstadt said the math teacher`s actions were a shameless conviction of trust, and that he took advantage of his children`s weakness.
"you`ve been convicted of molesting a child you`re supposed to be looking after," Klenstadt said. "it`s disgusting for me to violate trust and practice rules."
Court had learned that in mid-2017, police had received their first complaint of obscenity at the school library`s after-school homework club.
Police say Grabski placed his hand on the thigh under the school girl uniform skirt and stroked her pubic. The next day, Grabski sent the girl an e-mail with her personal account asking her to meet her in a science classroom after school.
On June 21, 2017, police issued a search warrant for Grabski`s home, seized a hard drive, a computer and a handwritten description of the matter.
The next day, a second student contacted the police and said she was harassed by the teacher just seven months ago.
In that case, the school girl was also at the homework club, where she was left alone with Grabski in the library. Grabski placed her hand on her uniform skirt and patted her thigh.
A few days later, the girl didn`t go to class, and the school`s e-mail system sent a message asking, "where are you today?"
In a victim statement submitted to court, one of the victims said she had been scared, felt violated and had been absent from school for some time after the violation. After that, she also lost friendship, and sometimes felt unsafe at school. "everything has changed in my life."
Chris Terry, a lawyer, said Grabski had no criminal history before and had always been a respected person in the community. He is the grade coordinator and the head of the math group.
But Judge Klenstadt said the case was serious in nature and was punishable by imprisonment.
"although the level of obscenity is not very serious, your status as a teacher and your unrepentant attitude towards your behavior aggravates the nature of the case. Imprisonment is appropriate. "
Grabski was sentenced to four months in prison on each of the two counts, while serving a sentence at the same time.
After his release, Grabski will also issue an 18-month community disciplinary order and go on the list of sex offenders for 15 years. Grabski will then be appealed to bail. He said he would appeal both the charges and the sentence.
