New state jungle fires escalate into a state of emergency, authorities warn residents to take refuge

The Richardson Road fire is now spreading to rural communities in Salt Ash and has reached Rookes Road`s house in threat.

More than 180 firefighters are trying to contain the fire, which is expected to spread at 90 kilometers an hour.

Residents of the region are advised to seek asylum as soon as possible.

The fires have destroyed about 1300 hectares of land in Salt Ash, Pacific Dunes and Campvale.

On Friday, the, Greater Hunter area announced a total fire ban, including Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Singleton and Upper Hunter..

Overnight, another jungle fire, also in the Hunter area, approached a hospital, and strong winds fanned fires north of Sydney.

As the fire approached Kurri Hospital in Hunter, NSW, firefighters reacted quickly and launched a fire-fighting operation.

Yesterday, the forest fire was downgraded to a "wait-and-see" state as the new state rural fire brigade contained the fire.

Inspector Rolf Poole of the New South Wales Rural Fire Department on Thursday advised residents near the fire to stay away from any fires.

"if people can see smoke in the neighborhood, they have to avoid it completely," Rolf Poole said.

"especially when we have a strong wind like this."

No casualties or property losses have been reported.
