In 2019, the National University of Singapore became the No. 1 university in Asia on the QS World University ranking.
The list of QS Global Universities was launched in 2019, and the number of universities in Asia Pacific increased rapidly, including Chinese mainland and Australian universities.
The list shows that China`s mainland universities account for six of the top 100 world universities, with Tsinghua University jumping from 25th in 2018 to 17th. Not only that, compared with last year`s ranking, Peking University (No. 8), Shanghai Jiaotong University (No. 3) and Zhejiang University (No. 19) all rose.
The figures show that 19 universities in China are now in the top 200, up from 12 in 2016.
In terms of Greater China, as many as 11 universities have entered the top 100 universities (6 mainland in China, 4 in Hong Kong and 1 in TW).
Although the top 10 of this year`s QS global university rankings are still monopolized by Europe and America universities, Asia-Pacific universities are above last year`s ranking, raising their ranking.
The 11th National University of Singapore is not only Singapore`s No. 1 university, but also the highest-ranking university in Asia. Singapore`s Nanyang Polytechnic University followed closely behind it, ranking 12th.
In Australia, Australian national universities remain number one in Australia, although their international rankings are down four places from last year. Australian universities in the top 100 also include the University of Melbourne (2), the University of Sydney (8), the University of New South Wales (unchanged), the University of Queensland (1), the University of Monash (1) and the University of Western Australia (2).
Figures show 24 of Australia`s top 35 universities on the list rose. In terms of teacher-student ratio indicators, 31 of the 35 shortlisted universities showed a decline. However, Australian universities have performed well in terms of the proportion of international students.
The top five universities in the world are MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge.
Overall, however, QS said U.S. universities did not perform well, with only 16 percent of American universities raising their rankings, the lowest in history.
At the same time, the number of international students in the United States and the United Kingdom has continued to decline.
The annual list focuses on six indicators: academic reputation, reputation among employers, essay quotes per teacher, teacher-student ratio, international teacher ratio, and international student ratio.
QS ranked 1000 universities in 82 regions. A total of 94000 scholars and 44000 personnel departments were surveyed, and 11.8 million research documents and 100 million academic quotations were analyzed.
