Zoo said Zeng Fawni had previously natural mating with the panda Wangwang, but did not successfully conceive, so decided to carry out two artificial insemination.

"both insemination went well, on Monday night and Tuesday morning," said senior veterinarian Ian Smith.

The park`s bamboo forest, (Bamboo Forest), will be closed until next Monday to maximize Fannie`s chances of conception.

Elaine Bensted, chief executive of Zoos SA, said: "right now, Fawney is in the window of pregnancy, so ensuring that she is free from interference is critical to Fannie`s success."

It is reported that the pregnancy can not be confirmed until 2 weeks before delivery, staff are optimistic about the insemination.

"Wangwang and Fawney are excellent diplomatic ambassadors who play an important role in international panda protection," Bensted said.
