A herdsman in Kunzhou donated nearly 5 million of his heritage to Flying doctors' Organization

A farmer in Kunzhou donated millions of Australian dollars to the Royal Flying doctors Organization (RFDS), which is believed to be one of the largest donations it has received in the state.

A farmer in Kunzhou donated millions of Australian dollars to the Royal Flying doctors Organization (RFDS), which is believed to be one of the largest donations it has received in the state.

Geoffrey Carrick, owner of the Maitland cattle station in Einasleigh, far north of Kunzhou, died in June at the age of 73.

The 138-square-kilometer property was sold at auction for $9.85 million, split between RFDS and the Children's Hospital Fund.

Mr. Carrick's friend, Jon Rolley, said he was a "good man" who donated generously for a variety of purposes, sometimes decorated with horns on boards for auctions.

"at the last auction he sold 4,000, and he donated the money to Mater Children's Hospital because he liked the kids."

"he has no children of his own, he has never been married, but he likes to donate money for the children."

Rolley said Mr. Carrick was very low-key about his charity fundraising and recalled seeing a picture of a child with no hair and breathing tube sitting on a bench at the Carrick family.

"I asked Geoffrey, & # 39; was that a relative? & # 39; he said & # 39; No, because one day I donated 30, 000 and they sent me this photo."

"at will, thousands of dollars are donated to institutions he is willing to support and never tell anyone."

"he did it only because he was a good man."

Rolley says Carrick is a real rural man and a good cattle farmer.

"they live at the Strathgordon cattle station, which is a remote place, and the only chance to see a doctor is to let the flying doctor fly by."

"Geoffrey Carrick is a good man. I hope people don't forget him."

Flight doctors Kunzhou says the $four million nine hundred and twenty five thousand Carrick donated to them is one of the largest donations they've ever received.

Katherine Ash, RFDS's Queensland fund-raising manager, says Carrick began donating money to them in 2014.

"at first it was $50, and then he donated it several times a year, and it was getting bigger and bigger." She said.

"when we heard that Geoffrey was leaving a legacy for RFDS, we knew it was a lot of money, but we didn't know how big it was. Everyone was surprised to know the amount. "

90 years ago it was also a gift in the will to let Flying doctors (then called Australia's Inland Mission Aerosurgery) rent their first plane.

Ms. Ash said she hoped Carrick's legacy would be used to buy a new plane. The purchase price of the aircraft is close to 10 million, and another 2.5 million need to be retrofitted.

"because our plane works 365 days a year, we buy a new one every 1-2 years."

"I hope this new plane will be placed in our base in Bekhoun so that it can fly over the cattle station he once owned and over the community where he once lived."
