Last month, the commission received repeated complaints from the public that it was looking for ways to permanently transfer fish from ponds near Swift Grove to other places.

Carp is believed to have illegally entered waterways, destroyed river ecosystems, disrupted river beds and competed with native natural species. Kirk Richardson, director of municipal operations at the Onkaparinga council, said the committee was working with local people.

"Carp eggs may have been inadvertently brought into this area by waterbirds from other wetlands," Mr. Richardson said. "it`s probably because of illegal release. Unfortunately, carp is very common throughout South Australia."

At this stage, the best way is to use a large net to fish the carp in the pond clean, drain the pond water, so as to prevent leaking fish survive.

"all protozoa in the pond, including fish and turtles, will be released to nearby ponds without being affected by fishing."

Residents on Facebook`s McLaren Vale community page expressed their concern about whether the pond ecosystem would return to normal.

Local people encourage young fishermen to catch good nets for carp and cut grass and root.

After reading a post on Facebook, Justin Allison, a holiday activity, McLaren Vale, took his 8-year-old daughter, Eve, and 5-year-old daughter Elise to the wetland to fish.

"We caught five fish, the youngest three, and this was her first fishing, so she was very happy."

"the local people are also very enthusiastic and tell us how to catch fish, and every time the youngest child catches fish, she is very excited."

Stefanie Hinkley also came fishing here with his 9-year-old son, Jack, and 6-year-old son Joey.

"all the children who come fishing here hope to catch a lot of fish." Ms. Hinkley said.
