Nearly three Victorians were killed each week last year, according to new figures.

Nearly 60 percent of people knew the killer, according to (ABS), the Australian Bureau of Statistics, after 59 murders occurred in Victoria in 2017.

The latest figures released on Thursday showed 145 murders in 2017, an increase of 29 from the previous year and a 40 percent increase since 2014, thanks to an increase in attempted murders and manslaughter.

In addition, the number of sexual assaults jumped from 4166 in 2014 to 6024 last year.

Seventy percent of the 10 victims knew the perpetrator, 60 percent of whom were attacked by non-family members such as ex-partners, adoptive parents, friends or colleagues.

Milne (William Milne), director of crime and justice statistics at ABS, said nearly 25000 people across Australia were victims of sexual assault last year, 82 percent of whom were women. This is the highest level since 2010.

"the record of female victims of abuse has increased by 9 percent since last year-the biggest annual increase since 2010." He said。

New data from the sentencing Advisory Committee (Sentencing Advisory Council) show that the number of non-custodial community corrections for perpetrators of serious burglary, armed robbery and serious injuries has declined, while prison sentences for these crimes have risen.

The average sentence for those convicted of serious burglary was extended from 32 months in 2015-16 to 39 months in 2016-2017.

In 2016-17, 74 (80%) of the criminals sentenced for aggravated burglary were sentenced to prison, compared with 59 (63%) in 2015-16.

But the ABS data also brings some good news about crime in Victoria: car theft fell 22% last year.

It was the first decline in motor vehicle theft since 2013 and the biggest drop in Australia.

A total of 44413 people were victims of burglary, but that also suggests a decline in the incidence of such crimes, down 16 percent from 2016.

This is also the largest decline in Australia.

However, the number of robberies in Victoria jumped to 3127 last year, the highest level since 2011 and up 37 percent from 2014.

There were 1885 armed robberies in 2017.

The figure is lower than the 1923 cases committed in 2016, but the figure is still much higher than in previous years.
