In 2015, a mother and stepfather were jailed for mistreating a 12-year-old daughter and killing her, and now face more charges for beating the girl`s sister several times.
Since being charged with killing a 12-year-old girl, officers from the Hunter Child abuse team have accused the parents of beating the girl`s surviving sister several times between 2014 and 2015.
The two sisters were allegedly beaten together several times at their home in Hunter Valley Aberglasslyn.
Police say the girl`s stepfather did so without doing anything to stop her mother.
The couple could not be named for legal reasons.
The stepfather admitted to torturing the 12-year-old in front of her sister, tying her to bed and beating her with strips, belts, wires and other things.
The 34-year-old stepfather reportedly sprinkled salt and vinegar on her wound until she finally died of torture.
Judge Peter Jamil (Peter Hamill) said in his sentence that the young girl`s "small body" had more than 50 wounds after years of ill-treatment.
Judge Jamil handed down his sentence before the New State Supreme Court, calling it "heinous cruelty."
Court learned that the man had committed abuse at home since 2011, targeting the 12-year-old girl and her sister, and that he had been the culprit.
But extreme violence behaviour against the 12-year-old escalated, leading to her death in 2015.
Her stepfather was sentenced to up to 37 and a half years in prison without parole for 28 years. Once he is eligible for parole in 2043, he will be deported to his African country.
The girl`s mother was initially charged with manslaughter because she had done nothing to stop the attacks and faced up to four years in prison without parole for up to 18 months.
The two will be present again in August.
