Introduction of Cocos Islands

Cocos Islands (Cocos Islands, also known as the Kirin Islands Keeling Islands), is one of Australia's overseas territories, located in the Indian Ocean, northwest of the Australian mainland, and consists of 27 coral islands of varying sizes. The nearest straight line is about 2100 kilometers from mainland Australia and about 1000 kilometers from Christmas Island (Christmas Island), another overseas territory in the Indian Ocean. Like Christmas Island, Cocos Islands is administratively administered by Western Australia.

The total land area of Cocos Islands is approximately 14 square kilometres. Of the 27 islands, only the main islands, (Main Island) and (West Island), are inhabited, with a permanent population of about 600, mainly belonging to the (Cocos Malays, Malay ethnic group of the Cox-Malay ethnic group. Sunni Islam and Malay as the first language, English is also popular on the island.

Cocos Islands was first discovered by William Kirin (William Keeling) in 1609, but was not settled until the early 19th century. One of the earliest settlers was John Clunies-Ross, a Scottish businessman. Most of the island's current population came from the Malay workers he brought with him to grow coconut trees. The Ross family ruled the islands as private territory for nearly 150 years, and by 1857 Britain had formally taken over the islands until the transfer of ownership of, Cocos Islands to Australia in 1955, after World War II.

To Cocos Islands, the only airport on the island is on West Island, and Virgin HNA (Virgin Australia) operates a flight to and from Cocos Islands from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, which takes about 4.5 hours.
